What: Located just off the Royal Mile, this two-floor bookstore is stacked to the ceiling with all sorts of things: from maps, tourist guides, magazines, to educational and fictional titles.

What: Opened in 1848 and still family run (Jackie Thin is the current MD) this traditional bookshop is one of Scotland's best and most popular. It stocks a comprehensive range of titles covering a broad range of subjects. If they can't source what you're looking for then nobody can.

What: A small, friendly bookshop that offers a great range of well-priced second-hand books and a large collection of old film posters.

What: The largest of waterstones 3 edinburgh book shops (the other two are at 83 George Street and 13 Princes Street) with three spacious floors offering a vast range of titles, plus a starbucks cafe for a break from the books.
